This refresher course is designed for professionals who engage in hazardous waste operations, activities involving hazardous substances, or hazardous materials emergency response and who have previously completed the 24-Hour or 40-Hour HAZWOPER training course.

Audience
This on-demand refresher course is appropriate for employees, managers, and supervisors who may be exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances while on the job. The course also satisfies the annual refresher training requirement for those who have already completed the 24-Hour or 40-Hour HAZWOPER training program.
Training Requirement
Per OSHA standards 29 CFR 1910.120 and 1926.65, workers must complete eight hours of HAZWOPER Refresher training within 12 months of the anniversary date of their previous HAZWOPER training. Employees who fail to meet this requirement may need to repeat their initial training.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- List specific laws and governmental agencies that pertain to hazardous waste removal
- Identify elements of chemical labels and SDS sheets under OSHA’s Hazard Communication standard
- Evaluate physical and safety hazards on hazardous waste sites
- Describe general types of personal protective equipment including chemical protective clothing and respirators used when dealing with hazardous waste.
Completion Requirements
To successfully complete the training, students must spend the required time in the course, must validate their identity throughout the training, actively participate in all training without assistance, and pass the end-of-course final assessment with a score of at least 70% or higher in three attempts or less.

Course Description
The 8-Hour Site Safety course is a prescribed (required) elective New York City Department of Buildings SST course that can help fulfill the requirement for an individual applying for a Site Safety Training (SST) Card. This is an awareness-level training only and does not provide any other qualification or authorization outside of the SST Card. The course is a comprehensive presentation of Chapter 33 and the Rules of the City of New York that pertains to public protection. Under Local Law 196 of 2017, all SST Cards expire 5-years from the date of issuance. To be eligible for renewal, SST cards holders are required to 8- or 16-hours of refresher training no more than one year beforeapplying for the card renewal.
There is no grace period for SST card renewals. If the card expires before the renewal process is complete, the card holder must restart the process and meet the requirements for a new SST card issuance (40-Hours of training for Workers and 60-Hours of training for Supervisors)

This course is designed to assist employees in learning about the Federal Government established the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom) 1910.1200, also known as the "right to know" law. The training covers work hazards, worker protection, and includes the revisions that align with the United Nations' Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), published in the Federal Register in March 2012.
Online training courses cannot cover the site-specific information and training required by OSHA.
